The area is secured, and there is no access without being escorted onto the reserve. As a result, a parking area or meeting point has been made available and where you will be met. The GPS coordinates for this meeting point is S33 41.790 E19 04.507 and is on the property itself. It takes 50 minutes to drive from the Waterfront in Cape Town to the meeting point and is 75.3Km away. It is common that the revenue collection officers of the Paarl Municipality place their speed trap cameras about 12 and 17 Km outside Paarl, where the speed limit is 120Km/hour.
DIRECTIONS
Drive on the N1 towards Worcester, and just before the toll road, take the Sonstraal turn-off. At the bridge, turn left, and then at the 4-way stop, turn right onto the R101 towards Worcester. This is the alternative to the toll road and tunnel. Travel up the pass for 14.1Km and as you reach the top of the pass, and just before you start going down the Du Toits Kloof pass, you will find the parking area on your left.
Be Considerate
It takes upwards of 20 minutes to get to the meeting point from the base on the property and there is no cell reception or landline.
So if you run late, there is no way of letting us know. Please excuse us if you turn up late and find no one around, because we would have assumed that you are not coming, and would have begun the 20 minute journey back to the base. So rather leave earlier; the chances are that we would be waiting for you.
These directions are from the N1 turnoff from the Waterfront in Cape Town.
VIEW FROM THE AIR
It's easy to get lost if you don't take the R101. Once you have turned off the N1 (left at exit 62 Sonstraal Rd) towards Paarl/Dal Josafat/Drakenstein (S33 44.476 E19 00.577), on the top of the bridge, turn left. Drive for 100m and at the 4-way stop turn right. You know you are on the right road if you are going up the mountain, and pass the SAPS dog school on your left. You are now on the R101. Carry on for 14.1Km (S33 41.790 E19 04.507) and the parking area is on your left on the apex of the Du Toits Kloof pass.
There are two helicopter landing points with easy access to all parts of the reserve with water availability. Small helicopters can land at 33 41'33.93S 19 05'44.22E while larger helicopters have 33 41'36.31S 19 05'46.00E reserved for their use. The landing area is well marked and easily identifiable from the air. Pilots are warned of overhead electricity cables along the length of the tar road.
