Limietberg Nature Reserve lies in the Du Toitskloof mountains near Paarl, forming a part of the greater Boland mountain range.
The reserve stretches from Franschhoek in the south, eastwards towards Groot Drakenstein, and northwards as far as Voëlvlei dam, covering an area of some 117 000 ha.
The terrain is rugged, with steep kloofs and deep valleys.

Ravers Ranch (Pty) Ltd is the owner of the area known as DePoort Van Du Toits Kloof 583 and is surrounded by the Limietberg Nature Reserve, a World Heritage Site. Limietberg Nature Reserve lies in the Du Toitskloof mountains near Paarl, forming a part of the greater Boland mountain range. The reserve stretches from Franschhoek in the south, eastwards towards Groot Drakenstein, and northwards as far as Voëlvlei dam, covering an area of some 117 000 ha. The terrain is rugged, with steep kloofs and deep valleys.
RESEARCH
The area is used for a broad range of biodiversity research by universities all over the world. It even has its own weather station.
HIKING
Managed by Cape Nature, limited hiking opportunities are available to the public with open access to Mountain Club members.
FILMING
The area is a sought after location by local and international producers with filming permitted under permit at a number of sites in the area.

The Farm, De Poort is situated in the heart of the reserve with special care to ensure that the area remains as natural and unspoilt as possible.

Frixion Adventures focuses on adrenaline and action-based activities in the area.

The mountain club of South Africa have special facilities on the property. This is a large, peaceful hut with shady trees, a pool, braai area, and adjacent camping. It offers a very convenient base for hiking and climbing in the Du Toit’s Kloof mountains, and is also suitable for families with small children.
VIEW FROM THE TOP
There are a number of activities that take place on the property.
These include hiking (permits issued by Cape Nature), film production and nature walks.
Nature lovers who enjoy bird watching or snow activities in winter are managed by Cape Nature.
A number of interesting historical features may be seen while hiking in the reserve. These include Bushman paintings, a disused manganese mine and the original toll road from Franschhoek. In the Bains Kloof pass,graves can be seen of convicts who helped to build the road, while there was an old prison at the Tweede Tol campsite.
